I made the trip “around the horn” on Connie in 1989 when we took her to SLEP. How are you going to deal with the heavy seas going around? she will be bobbing like a cork sitting that high in the water.

I am having our Director of Operations give input on this comment. We have plans in place, but it would be better answered by someone with more knowledge of going around Cape Horn than I have!

They will be going through the Straits of Magellan during the best time of year for weather. They will have an escort tug from Panama all the way to Punta Arenas where another escort tug will come out to assist them around.

I went around the Horn towing the semisub rig Bluewater 2 from Valdivia/Chile to Galveston in 103 days, between December 1972 and March 1973 with the dutch tugs Poolzee and Witte Zee. The weather in the Pacific and Drake Passage was OK, the worst and tricky part is from the Horn until clear north of the Falklands. You all have a safe journey, Gerrit.
